Shandong Fine Chemical Wastewater Treatment Project for a Spice Manufacturer

Project Overview

  • Located in Juye County, Heze, Shandong, this client is an integrated enterprise specializing in the R&D, production, and sales of high-end flavors, fragrances, and food additives. With a core focus on four major product categories—alcohols, acids, esters, and ketones—it serves a wide range of industries including food, personal care, and pharmaceuticals.
  • The project is designed with a wastewater treatment capacity of 350 m³/d, with equipment installation and commissioning now completed.
  • The wastewater stream is characterized by complex composition, high pollutant concentrations, high salinity, and the presence of refractory organic compounds such as furanone and watermelon ketone—both benzene-ring heterocyclic substances—resulting in poor biodegradability.

 

Key Technical Challenges

  • Intermittent production and frequent product changeovers cause pulsed fluctuations in both water quality and flow rate, necessitating enhanced source-segregation and multi-stream pretreatment.
  • Effective synergistic control is required for high-concentration recalcitrant organic pollutants, high salinity, oils and fats, high toxicity, strong odors, and color. The goal is to improve biodegradability, stabilize the biological treatment system, and ensure effluent quality meets discharge standards.

  • Citral wastewater: Citral wastewater → 1# Equalization Tank (combined with diacetyl wastewater) → 1# Iron-Carbon Micro-Electrolysis → 1# Fenton Reaction Tank → 1# Neutralization & Sedimentation Tank → Biochemical Feed Tank
  • Esterification wastewater: Esterification wastewater → DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) Oil Separator → 2# Equalization Tank (combined with watermelon ketone and thiazole wastewater) → 2# Iron-Carbon Micro-Electrolysis → 2# Fenton Reaction Tank → 2# Neutralization & Sedimentation Tank → Physicochemical Feed Tank → Three-Effect Evaporator → Condensate Tank → Biochemical Feed Tank
  • Other low-concentration wastewater: Other low-concentration wastewater → Biochemical Feed Tank
