With total dissolved solids exceeding 50,000 mg\/L, the wastewater is classified as high-salinity wastewater.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Technical Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The wastewater contains halogenated hydrocarbons, furfural, and heterocyclic flavor and fragrance intermediates, resulting in extremely poor biodegradability\u2014classifying it as a notoriously difficult-to-treat wastewater stream.<\/li>\n<li>The combined wastewater exhibits high salinity, which poses significant toxicity to microorganisms.<\/li>\n<li>Intermittent production and frequent product changeovers cause pulsed fluctuations in both water quality and flow rate, necessitating enhanced source-segregation and multi-stream pretreatment.<\/li>\n<li>Effective synergistic control is required for high-concentration recalcitrant organic pollutants, high salinity, high toxicity, strong odors, and color.
